At 9.26am on Wednesday 26 September (9:26-26:9), more than 1.3 million New Zealanders participated in the New Zealand ShakeOut earthquake drill, the first ShakeOut drill held nationwide in any country!
Ruma Whitu watched this video, before taking part in the big Shake Out drill.  We practised what to do if there was an earthquake while we were at school.  They were awesome!!!  Now they need to sort out what to do at home so come on parents make sure we are prepared and know exactly what to do.  It could save lives.

Following our Bee Inquiry we were allowed to answer some of our own wonderings.
Our topics ranged from - Ants, Space, Flowers, Cats and even How is Usain Bolt the fastest man in the world?  We followed the same process we used for our bee topic and then we chose how we wanted to present our findings.  Here are some of the pictures showing our models we made.

Ruma whitu went over to room 12 to make our own juice.  Here is some snipits of what we thought:

• Kaidah - I thought it was going to be yucky, but it was yum and delicious. 
• Sapphire - The juicer sounded like a vacuum cleaner.  We had to take turns, then it was my turn.  I had a bit of everything except the bananas.     
• Stance - The juicer was spinning like a tornado.  We put apple, kiwifruit, orange and pears in.  The juicer was chunky with fruit. 
• Sativa - When I drank it, it was delicious and refreshing.  It started dripping down my mouth. 
• Tiare - It looked milky and frothy.  The pulp looked chunky.  My juice was so yum and refreshing.  
• Tajai - I pushed a plunger down to make the fruit go down into the blade, the blade was twirling and it made a vacuum noise.  When my juice was finished it looked orange on top and it was frothy to. 
• Leana - It was funny when Whaea Lisa put the apple inside the machine because it popped out of it and it looked like popcorn, popping out of the machine.  It was funny.

BIG QUESTION:  How does the bee keeper get the bees into the bee hive?

We then used books and the internet to find out the answers to our questions.  Then we made some cool posters that show some of the facts that we found out.

The beekeeper gets the queen bee and puts it into the beehive and then the rest of the bees follow it.

It has tiny hairs that make it fluffy.  Its eyes are big and googly and they look freaky.  The wings are see through and have veins.  The legs look like crabs.  The stinger is sharp and pointy.

Rheannon's Frog

Rheannon's Frog has googly eyes that watch you move.  It's slimy, shiny and jumpy. 
The frog's head is as hard as a rock.  It's soft on the stomach
and smooth too.  This frog has webbed feet and it's black and green.

The frog is jumping like a kangaroo.  Its back is hard like stones.  It lives in a container with rocks, pebbles and water.  It has black shiny, googly eyes.  it  has  4  legs that bend  but  when  it  jumps  it  pushes up its back leg.  Its back is rough like a crocodile.  His throat goes up and down.

Description of a tornado

We watched a You tube clip of a tornado and then we brainstormed words that we heard in the clip to use in our descriptions.

A tornado came down like a rocket.  The tornado swings side to side.  It tears houses apart like pieces of paper.  Then when it's finished leaving a disaterous mess.  People died in that tornado.

It was turning out of control sucking things up like a vacuum.  It was ripping the houses apart.  It was as dangerous as a Tsunami.  Picking up trucks and throwing them like they're just a bunch of toy trucks.   Rumbling like a noisy earthquake.

Character Description of a Maori Warrior

His pukana has google eyes.  His hair was like rope.  His tongue was slithering like a snake in and out of his mouth.  His body was wriggling like jelly.  His eyebrows almost touched part of his nose as he frowned.  His mouth opened like a lion roaring.

He was doing the pukana.  His hair looked like ropes.  He had long teeth and his eyebrows are nearly around his face.  He had tattoos all over his body.  He has one earring on and his eyes were popping right out of his face.  He had a green stone on.  His hair was so thick and knotted you wouldn’t be able to brush it.  At the back of his teeth are like vampires teeth.  His nose was like a pig nose.  His body is so strong, he looked scary.
